Ana Lopes

Ana is one of our founder members. She is a fiery and feisty Brazilian whose presence at the box is very much enjoyed. Ana’s progression has been impressive and we are very proud of her journey so far. To not be able to squat when she joined Fibre to be able to deadlift 100kg in her 1RM deadlift and string a dozen of kipping chin ups, she is resilient and just a lot of fun.

Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and what you do?
I’m from Brazil, moved to Australia 6 years ago. I miss my family and friends more than I can tell, but unfortunately Brazil now only as a holiday destination. I have a degree in psychology, but never actually worked as one. When I first got here, I was studying English, and then I did 6 months of child care, didn’t like much. I was working in a pub for the past 3 years until I decided to do a nursing diploma. I recently started to work as a nurse at St John of God, I really enjoy being able to make a positive change in a person’s life when they are at their most vulnerable. I have 2 miniature schnauzers and treat them like my children. Between work, dogs, crossfit and my husband I don’t have much time left. =P

Who and/or what inspire you?
My mum. She is the strongest person I’ve ever met. No matter what life throws at her, she always has a smile on her face. Her faith keeps her and everybody around her calm and positive. Also my husband, he is the most patient man, he is funny and always knows what to say to lift me up.

Can you cook and what are your favourite dishes?
Everybody knows that I can’t cook! I used to, but not anymore. That’s why I married a chef! Hahahahaha I love to eat, so it’s hard to pick one dish, but I suppose I would have to go with a Brazilian bbq.

What has CrossFit done for you
Crossfit has showed me that pain is actually good (can everyone see my lazy husband shaking his head?). That I can have a good addiction, that I’m stronger than I think I really am.

What is your favourite WOD?

Burpees or Chin Ups?
Oh Lord, chin ups. I think.

What do you like most about CrossFit Fibre?
The people! We are like a family. I enjoy having chats before and after the WODs. And we always help each other, encourage and even yell when it’s necessary! =) everybody shares nice tips and helps the way they can.

If You were to design a WOD for the coach, what would it be?
Wall balls and box jumps. Oh and some running too! =P
